Centre agrees to release two IPS officers for Assam

NEW DELHI: The Centre, responding to Assam government’s request for repatriation of six IPS officers citing a shortage of senior police officers in the cadre, has agreed to relieve two of them now on deputation to Intelligence Bureau (IB) and National Investigation Agency (NIA).

Harmeet Singh, a 1992 batch IPS officer of the Assam-Meghalaya cadre, will move from his current charge as joint director in IB to take up an IG-level assingment in Assam. Similarly, Anurag Tankha, who belongs to the 1995 batch, has been relieved from his current charge as IG in NIA.
